Colour and Intrusion

Beginning to explore ideas of self-expression, and gesture in drawing and painting. These are 4 pages of many in an old book I drew in. I was looking at ideas to do with intrusion of the application colour on a surface, of the page itself and how the relationship of colour and lines change the space and how you view it, like the lines have personalities! It has a feeling of rebellion, like a child who shouldn't be scribbling on a page. In that sense the work is related to ideas of children's art and outsider art- an innocence of expression. Also inspired by Abstract Expressionism I saw in New York.. to which I need to research a lot more according to tutors today!

Pencil Drawing, Eindhoven

Recently spent a week in Eindhoven, Holland, visiting my Grandma. Whilst we were there I was inspired by my Grandma, a portrait artist, to do some pencil sketches. We spent all afternoon drawing... I thought I may be a bit rusty but it was so fun. It reminded me how much I like the almost meditive state you get into when doing a technical sketch....

Liquid Brick

Here is my work from the Group Exhibition Liquid Brick, at the Menier Gallery, London, from 29th May til 2nd June 2012. My piece was to do with my current practice, reflecting on the human impact on the environment. It's a shame the glass is so reflective!
