doors in the wall

Over the last few months, me and a few friends have been organising group show 'doors in the wall', which was across two locations in Deptford: BEARSPACE and new warehouse space Number 3 London on Creekside; with a mix of Farnham Graduates and established artists.

The private view was such a success, we had lots of visitors, friends, family and local artists see the show. People seemed to like the industrial roughness of Number 3 mixed with the art on show.

Artists in the show were:  Alyssa BaconJames BrownCharlotte Coulter, Rupert Drapkin,
Charlie Evaristo-Boyce, Me!, Miranda Harrison, Celia Hempton, Alexis KanenasJo LoweLee Maelzer, Katie McGurk, Heidi MellishFreya Morter, Jonathan Parsons, Danny Rolph,
Liam Salt, Paul VivianIsaac Willis

The Twitter we have been keeping up to date has been great in bringing in people from around Deptford including APT Gallery and Art Hub on Creekside. South London Art Map and ArtRabbit were also great in promoting the show.

Farnham Degree Show

I have not been keeping up to date with my blog! Here is me at the Private View of the Degree show, back on 22nd May!

Here are the paintings I had on display, I was lucky enough to have a space on the main corridor too which was great. Also found out I graduated uni with a First, which I am over the moon about!

Final end of year paintings!

These are on show in the Degree Show at UCA Farnham, which is open to the public from 23rd May.
Going to take individual photos of the pieces tomorrow, because of the fluorescent paint it is so difficult to capture the colour properly on camera. It's crazy it's all coming to an end!

ANNA GARRETT

7th April - 2nd May 2014
Footfall Art is delighted to present Anna Garrett.
Floure$cent. Mixed media, dimensions variable. 2013.
Anna Garrett presents a series of paintings titled, Fluore$cent. Within this body of work she is exploring the falsity of the advertising image, and the power of the photographic illusion to penetrate the mind of the consumer. Primarily addressing the artificial, ‘perfect’ imagery found in the media, Anna explores the hollowness of these images and consumerism’s promise of self-fulfilment.
Fluore$cent is derived from a performative photo-shoot, undertaken by the artist in order to play with the sensuality of perfume advertising imagery, and the role of the model. The paintings raise questions around vulnerability vs. empowerment, which is something people in the eyes of the media cannot escape. The neons are reminiscent of a cheap toxicity emulating a synthetic commercial day-dream of the 21st century.
In her most recent work, Anna has been looking into the concept of the holiday as an escapism from reality. Creating similarly saturated, tropical and fluorescent paintings, she gestures towards the facade of the image and the construct of painting. Anna is graduating from the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham this year.

Taken on iPhone so fluorescent quality doesn't really show!
The work is so bright I have resorted to wearing sunglasses in the studio, much to the amusement of my peers

Update

I've been working on drawings combining holiday advertisement imagery and photos I have taken of Farnham town, of rubbish bins etc. It's a shame the fluorescent quality doesn't capture so well on camera, some of the works really hurt your eyes to look at for a while, especially the orange ones. The pieces hold similar ideas to my figurative work: breaking the perfect advertising image.
Some news... I am going to be in a show with Footfall Art, a place in Bermondsey in April this year. I'm going to show Fluore$cent, as a series like at the Hans Brinker. Here is more info: http://footfallart.tumblr.com/about
Also my Uni is holding a show for the year group at Oxford House, Bethnal Green, in a few weeks. It's called Help! Savages. http://madeinshoreditch.co.uk/events/help-savages/

Work in progress..
